Valentine's Day: Festival of Love

💓When the month of February comes, the excitement level among lovers suddenly crosses all limits of the physical world. Love becomes air, water, and food for them. The whole atmosphere becomes joyful, ecstatic; happiness knows no boundary. The planning for the celebration of Valentine's Day becomes the first priority despite the busy schedule, as people want to do anything to make this day special and memorable. This enthusiasm among people is so valid,  as love between man and woman is the most natural and beautiful thing in the world, the sole factor for procreation.

How to celebrate this day so that one can get a feeling of boundless happiness. Can the same excitement stay throughout the year? Let's first look into the background of this festival.

According to the most popular story, Valentine's Day is celebrated in remembrance of St. Valentine who stood for the love and union of men and women when the Roman emperor was against the marriage. St. Valentine got martyred on 14th February for his daring attitude towards preserving the societal and human need of love and marriage. Since then this day is celebrated in fond memory of brave St. Valentine.

Any festival starts in human civilization from some point in history where somebody brings any change in society due to scientific, social, religious or cultural reason. Slowly these festivals become part of people's lives, adding meaning to their existence.

Now the special characteristic of Valentine's day is that this is the only festival for celebrating the spirit of love between man & woman. Actually, the whole purpose of the struggles of human lives is to get peace and happiness. When people fall in love with the opposite gender, it gives them a sense of completeness and thus feeling of happiness which they could never find anywhere else. The union of man and woman is like the completion of two half circuits. 💑This completion gives them extreme joy in terms of physical, emotional, and psychological satisfaction.

But without an understanding of life, this joy comes with the package of attachment, possessiveness, and expectations which slowly leads towards sorrow. To avoid this sorrow and gain all good things out of this relationship, one must understand the true nature of love and impermanence of life.

Actually, this infinite love is the nature of our own existence, other persons come in our lives to make us remember our own magnificence and light. We must accept this gift from nature as this love does not require any material object for expression, it just requires the company of two persons.

How to make this day special?

While sitting in the company of your beloved, be present fully at that moment. Breathe as if the whole cosmos is yours and only you two people exist in this world. Forget everything, be natural. Feel the presence of your partner and be in union with this feeling. It's the moment of gratitude towards life, you are happy beyond any reason. Slowly even the feeling of two will disappear, you will feel a union within yourself. That's true love.

How to keep this love within the heart alive throughout the year?

This day is just a reminder to make an arrangement for the mind to get involved in the spirit of love so that at least for one day you forget the worldly things and get time for yourself to delve deep into the heart for the search of love. You can actually take this day as a good start to make the rest of the year full of love and life. Always remember if being sad can be our choice, so can be being happy.
